CLIMADAPT DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM
W O R K S H O P
PC Lab G30, Agriculture building, UCD
Thursday 8th December 2011
10AM - 3 PM
The COFORD web-based CLIMADAPT decision support system (DSS) was developed to provide guidance on forest species suitability under current and future climate change scenarios.
The workshops will be held by Dr Kevin Black, FERS Ltd and Dr Duncan Ray NRS, UK Forestry Commission, to outline the use of the web-application and for selection of all major current and potential forest species based on current and future climate change scenarios. Participants will also learn to conduct spatial analysis on climatic and other site factors to aid in planning and establishment. Additional guidance will be given on soil and indicator species identification.
The course would be particularly suitable for forestry inspectors and establishment managers, but all are welcome to attend. Previous attendance in the Natural Woodlands scheme training courses would be an advantage but not an essential pre-requisite. The course will be conducted in a computer lab located in the agriculture building. The application is already on the web and can be accessed using high speed broad band and an updated version of your prefered browser: http://82.165.27.141/climadapt_client/index.jsp. Electronic versions of the User Manual can be downloaded beforehand (pdf 2,947Kb) , but these will also be supplied on the day of the workshop.
Registration fee is €5 per person payable in advance. This is to cover the cost of using the UCD PC lab. Each Workshop is limited to 40 participants. If booking exceeds our expectations an additional Workshop(s) will be held in 2012. Attendance will qualify for CPD points for the Society of Irish Foresters.
Tea/coffee and lunch is not included, but facilities are available on campus.
